Queenstown Airport Corporation Traffic 9 months End 31 March 2009
Queenstown Airport saw 548,086 passengers move through its airport for the 9 month period ending March 2009. Queenstown Airport Corporation chief executive Steve Sanderson said “The passenger numbers through the airport are down 2% for the same period last year, however, considering the economic down turn and the benchmark off a 5 year growth period, this is a good outcome”.
International passengers grew to 65,671, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year supported by a lift of 19% in international flights from the east coast of Australia. Sanderson said “The direct flights from Australia are very well supported and demonstrate the desire of destination travellers to arrive in Queenstown direct”.
Domestic passengers were down for the same period last year to 482,415, a 4% decrease, with a 1% increase in flights. The increase in the number of flights revolves around more ATRs versus 737s having been used over the same period last year.
