Is there a drop off zone?
Yes there is a drop off zone outside the terminal. Vehicles must not be left unattended and must not wait in this zone. This is not a pick up zone and any vehicles waiting in this zone may receive a parking ticket.
Where can I park?
There is a substantial public car park directly opposite the terminal. Ensure that you take your parking ticket with you as the car park paying stations are outside the car park as you return to your vehicle.
How long before my flight do I need to be at Airport?
Different airlines have different check in times. Check your travel documents for the exact check in times for your flight.
How long does it take to get into Queenstown?
Queenstown Airport is approximately 7kms from downtown Queenstown. Transport options include car rental, public transport, supershuttle or taxis.
Where can I store my luggage at the Airport?
Bags can be stored in lockers adjacent to the baggage reclaim or at the Airport Help Desk for storage of larger/oversized items.
What Cafes are there at the Airport?
The Airport Café is situated in the main concourse. Coffee, chocolate and ice cream can also be bought at the Patagonia Kiosk as you enter the terminal through the main entrance.
A licensed bar, Bing Bong, is situated in the main concourse.
A small coffee and snack kiosk is also located in the International departure lounge.
Is there free Wi-Fi?
One hour free Wi-Fi is offered anywhere within the terminal for every 4 hour period.
There is also an Internet lounge adjacent to the Airport Help Desk. Internet time can be purchased at the Airport Help Desk.
What are the transport options to my accommodation?
There are three options
Taxis – which run from the front of the terminal and can take you directly to your accommodation.
Supershuttle– shared transport that will take you to the door of your hotel.
Public Transport – public buses which have regular stops throughout the district. These run every 15 – 20 minutes.
How do I get to Wanaka?
There are two options to travel to Wanaka – by the Connexions or Connectabus Wanaka. For further information look at the Transport page of this website or ask at the Airport Help Desk on arrival.
Can you get GST refunded in NZ at the Airport?
There is no GST refund system in New Zealand or its Airports.
New Zealand Inland Revenue advises that in nearly all cases, a goods and services tax (15%) is payable on items purchased in New Zealand.
There are many retailers across New Zealand at which you can shop tax and GST free from – check with the retailer whether this is an option when purchasing an item.
In no cases is GST refunded at the Airport.
Is there Duty Free available for International Flights?
Yes there are Airport Duty Free Stores in the international departure lounge and the International arrivals hall once you have cleared customs.
Are there shower facilities at the Airport?
No there are no shower facilities at Queenstown Airport.
Are there smoking areas at the Airport?
No there are no smoking areas within the terminal.
Is Alcohol served at the terminal?
Yes there is a licensed bar at Queenstown Airport called the BingBong Bar.
If I have to change a flight or have an airline query can I get help at the airport?
Air New Zealand has a service desk at Queenstown Airport. Alternatively contact the airline by telephone.
Are there any airline lounges?
There is an Air New Zealand Koru Club Lounge on the 1st floor of the Terminal.
Is the Airport open 24 hours?
No the Terminal opens one hour before and after scheduled flights.
Does the Airport close in inclement weather?
The Airport is open 7 days a week, 365 days of the year regardless of weather or disrupts.
Always check with the airline about disrupts and it is advisable to come to the Airport to check in regardless of weather conditions.
Is there a children’s play area?
No there is not a children’s specific play area. However there are motorized toys and a parent’s room.
Can I book parking online?
No parking can’t be booked on line.
What can I take on an International flight?
The New Zealand Government has introduced new security arrangements for all international flights to and from New Zealand airports.
You can now only carry liquids, aerosols or gels in your hand luggage if each container is no more than 100ml, and these containers collectively can fit comfortably into one re-sealable, 20cm x 20cm (or smaller) transparent plastic bag.
Larger items have to be packed in your check-in luggage.
There are exemptions to this rule, including carrying on baby products. Check on the Aviation Security Service on http://www.avsec.govt.nz.
